Dr. Ruth Puhr
Ruth has worked in higher education since 2006. She holds a doctorate in Education from University College London as well as an MA in Music and an MSc in Information Technology. This multi-disciplinary background informs Ruth’s practice in teaching and research and she has held roles in academic development, quality assurance, and accreditation.
With a background in Arts Education in the UK, Ruth began her career managing Education & Outreach for the Theatre Royal in Newcastle devising and delivering collaborative projects with companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Scottish Opera, and English Heritage.
Winner of an Academy of Management award (Management Education Division) in 2022 and nominated for the Geoff Whitty Prize (Education and Social Justice) in 2023, Ruth’s research interests include organisational culture in higher education, professional identity, and graduate work readiness.
Passionate about innovation, particularly the use of digital tools to enhance teaching, learning and assessment, Ruth takes a context-informed pragmatic approach to the framing of problems. A strong advocate for reflective practice, she fosters a culture of curiosity and responsible experimentation.
Ruth is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA), President of the Swiss Faculty Development Network (SFDN), and Associate Council member of the International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED).
